Yesterday, at the UAE-China Business & Investment Forum, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, and Beijing Daxing International Airport of Capital Airport Holding Company, signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aiming to strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two parties. The milestone marks a further deepening of the partnership between Etihad Airways and Beijing Daxing International Airport in the aviation sector, opening a new chapter in aviation cooperation.

PLAY Airlines, Iceland’s premier low-cost carrier, has forged a strategic alliance with GO7, a global airline technology leader, to expand its route offerings across Iceland, Europe, and North America through its Keflavík International Airport (KEF) hub. This collaboration is a significant milestone for both companies, enhancing the passenger experience and global connectivity for seamless travel.

Four low-cost airlines have been hit with fines totalling €150 million by the Spanish government for policies that include charging passengers extra for cabin luggage. It’s the biggest sanction issued by the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which sees easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling and Volotea penalised after an investigation launched last summer.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for April 2024 global passenger demand with the following highlights:
Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), was up 11.0% compared to April 2023. Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), was up 9.6% year-on-year. The April load factor was 82.4% (+1.0ppt compared to April 2023).

Emirates has integrated with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Turbulence Aware Platform, becoming the first airline to incorporate this within Lufthansa Systems’ Lido mPilot mobile navigation solution. This collaboration equips pilots with real-time, accurate turbulence information, enhancing safety, operational efficiency, and passenger comfort.
